What a beautiful day!

Good evening all!  What a beautiful day to be alive.

I live in the greatest country in the world and in the best time in history. What is not beautiful about that?

The ranting of politicians can make us forget what our founding fathers set in place.  A nation that lets us grow in the sunshine if we are willing to believe in our country and ourselves.  We can accomplish anything that our nation decides needs to be accomplished.  We defeated an England that was a super power in it's own right 225 years ago to become a fledgling nation.  How was this possible?  We believed we could!  How could we remain and independent nation in 1812?  We believed we could!  How did Texans wrangle Texas away from Mexico in their fight for independence?  They believed they could!  You get the picture.

It was not only a belief but it was also a conscious decision to do what was necessary to reach the goal.

Today we are faced with terrorist who want nothing more than to destroy our nation because of the very freedoms we enjoy.  Our sense of morality has no meaning for them.  When we openly debate giving the enemy legal protection as we pursue avenues of identify possible attacks, they laugh at our failure to realize that war is not pretty or painless.  They are willing to sacrifice young lives in pursuit of a muslim world. Fanatics who have no desire to exchanging ideas.

How do we win a war against radicals?  We win the war by wearing them down.

During our country's civil war the north won out over the south because we simply had more men, more determination and access to more equipment to support our troops.  In essence we wore the south down.

A war of attrition defeated our brothers in the south and we can defeat the terrorists the same way.  But we also have to believe we can do it.  We have to be Americans first and partisans second or dare we dream third, fourth or even fifth.

What a beautiful day that would be! And yet it is a beautiful day because hope is alive in America.
